The purpose of the Self-Reliant Diver Specialty course is to recognize and accept the role of the buddy system and its contributions to diver safety while identifying and developing self-reliance and independence while diving.

This course is an introduction to self-reliant diving and helps you to develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary to rely on yourself first, whether or not you are diving with a partner, including:
The value and application of the buddy system.
The philosophy of, and motivation for, diving without a partner.
Potential risks of diving alone, and how to manage those risks.
The value of equipment redundancy and what back-up equipment is needed.
Dive planning and gas management.
Become a safe solo diver & practice self-reliant skills
PADI Advanced Open Water Divers or higher are eligible for this course. with at least 100 logged dives
Minimum age is 18 years
The training takes two days and includes three dives
You need a redundant gas source, dive computer, surface signaling devices
And also a DSMB, knife/cutting tool and a slate and pencil

Understand the value and application of the buddy system and the philosophy of, and motivation for, diving without a partner. Recognize potential risks of diving aloe and how to manage those risks. Learn the value of equipment redundancy and what back-up equipment is needed and you will also learn to plan you dive and gas management.
